Rotary Club of Romney Marsh newsletter JANUARY 2019

We hope you all have a wonderful year in 2019, that you stay healthy and that all your problems are small ones.

Once again we have to thank all of the wonderful people of Romney Marsh for your fantastic support over the three weeks of our annual Santa Sleigh runs. The final numbers are still to be crunched but it looks like when all costs have been paid we will have netted just over £7,000 this year which will be used to support local charities and good causes – a massive ‘THANK YOU’ to all who contributed by throwing something into our buckets large or small.
All of us involved with the Rotary Club once again got a fantastic buzz out of the collection nights, the feedback we get is always very positive and this year was no exception even if the weather wasn’t as always on our side. The joy on the faces of the kids (of all ages) is reward in plenty for the miles covered and always makes the effort worthwhile. Once again our special thanks are due to Barbara Gold for organising the rotas and being present on very nearly all of the collection nights and to our two excellent pilots, Dennis Wimble and Patrick Gold whose expertise in reversing in and out of cul-de-sacs and between parked cars has earned the admiration of all. Thanks too this year to local scout troops from New Romney, Dymchurch, St. Mary’s Bay and Lydd and of course to Father Christmas for finding time to be the star of the show each evening.

We were also pleased to once again be invited to take part in the New Romney Lantern Parade which took place on 7th December and which, although only in its second year, is fast becoming a regular feature in the town. We hope that we get asked again next year.
So now we are turning our thoughts to the other events Father Christmas with New Romney Mayor Cllr Peter Coe that we are hoping to run in this new year. We have
dates pencilled in the collective diary for a Race Night, a Quiz Night, a full on concert from the ever popular local group, The Haywardians, and of course our 50th Anniversary celebrations in May. We also have a list of speakers that we are hoping to attract along to our regular Thursday night meetings and hope to be involved once again with various community support events in our area.
