Hello to one and all,
Following a very successful quiz night, we were very pleased to make a further donation of £600 to our local branch of The Paula Carr Trust. Gary Fagg, is the Chairman of the Trust and was delighted to receive the cheque from our President,
Trevor Harrison, and to give him a short tour of their Centre within the grounds of the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford where he met some of the beneficiaries of charitable donations such as ours.
It was a busy month for Trevor as he also visited the Salvation Army drop in centre in Hythe to present Captain Callum McKenna with a cheque for £1,500 to help them with the valuable work they do for so many people including those in the Romney Marsh area.
Of course both these presentations took place before the full force of coronavirus hit the country, we have decided to hold all further charitable donations until the full impact of the pandemic is known and to help those in our area who need help as a result. We have just agreed a £1,500 donation to The Shepway Foodbank which serves the centres in New Romney and Lydd and we add our plea to many others for people to stop emptying the shelves for themselves and consider the needs of others. The Foodbanks are suffering as a result and they need all of us to be considerate and sensible as they struggle to meet a very urgent need to help those in hardship at this time.
The Coronavirus emergency has meant that we have had to cancel all of our activities until further notice so there will not be much to report for a while. If you are able to offer help as a volunteer or need help as an individual or organisation, please contact the New Romney Community Hub based in the Day Centre in Rolfe Lane in the first instance. Their contact email address is Covidemail@example.com or check local press for telephone numbers and website details.
