Rotary Club of Romney Marsh
The Rotary Club of Romney Marsh are gearing up for Christmas! Routes are being planned and collection buckets cleaned ready for the annual sleigh runs which will commence this year on Monday 2nd December and will be out and about for three weeks with our last collection night currently scheduled for Friday 21st. We are also delighted to once again be part of the New Romney Lantern Parade on 13th December and to have the opportunity for Santa to park his sleigh outside Sainsbury’s on 14th December. We hope to publish route information towards the end of November.
Monies collected from the sleigh runs are used to support mainly local charities, organisations and good causes. In the last Rotary year we donated just over £11,000 to support local scouts, Demelza House, Dementia cafes, Hi Kent, Parkinson’s Society, Paula Carr Trust, Pilgrims Hospice and international disaster relief work. This year we have already made donations to Martha Trust and plan to give further help to Paula Carr, C.A.R.M (Caring Altogether on Romney Marsh), The Salvation Army, Romney Marsh Counselling Services and Porchlight as well as supporting the international project headed by Rotary Clubs from all over the world to finally extinguish the still lingering threat of polio in Africa.
Our next fund raising event will be in just a few weeks time, a barn dance open to all to be held at All Saints Church Hall in St. Mary’s Bay on Saturday 9th November with all profits going to Porchlight, a local charity doing fantastic work to help homeless, vulnerable and isolated people in our area. Tickets are just £9 and are available now from Patrick Gold on 01797 36946
